1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot cleaner robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum cleaner vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot cleaner with mop to clean one specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
