Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item upgrade comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item upgrade by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a measure of the damage and its quality. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.

On your PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the region the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item upgrading (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the same range, unless it's a unique item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items (simply click the up coming document). It gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
