Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

The item upgrade lets players increase the level of their equippable items such as weapons, armor and trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

Upgrade components are slotted into equipment to give attribute bonuses and extra effects. These are usually slot-restricted however, there are some universal upgrades.

Rerolling

A player is able to reroll an upgrade to an item in Diablo 4. This is done through the Level Up mechanic, which suspends the game and displays a list of four randomly chosen upgrades. The player can select one of the upgrades and continue the battle. Rerolling costs similar to a normal Level Up. Players must be cautious to select the appropriate upgrade, since they won't be aware of the new stats until the item has been rerolled.

However, the majority of upgrade components can't be salvaged or replaced, unless by using an Upgrade Extractor. The only exception is glyphs. They can be salvaged by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or the Ascended Salvage tool.

Upgrading an item can cost gold or Dilithium according to the type of item. In addition, some upgrades require Flightstones and/or crests.
