1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture leg. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your best robot cleaner vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
