WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item upgrader kit from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. button, which displays an image of the item upgrade at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item level upgrade, continue reading this.., as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
