WoW Upgrades - The item upgrades Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrading by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the Item level Upgrade however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same Best item upgrade level will be less expensive, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
