The upgrade of an item allows players to boost an item upgrader kit's gear rating up 700 points, and then give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

You can't upgrade your armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior, you should focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or spell power. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you use for the final boss fight as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.
