10 Quick Tips On Item Upgrader
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This is the sum of an item upgrader kit's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that need to be altered to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and can be seen on all item upgrading tooltips. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item upgrader mod and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory states that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine how valuable the stats of an item really are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the size of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item upgrader mod may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
