1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop bin for emptying. It's the best robotic mop and vacuum robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and best automatic vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
