World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item upgrading's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item level upgrade to be upgraded.

It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller is possible using the level of the item level upgrade.

On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

This is not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item upgrade [take a look at the site here]. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit score. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade item cost. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes could do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. As with base equipment, it must be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than in later ones, since most players prefer more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items can be bought at the store or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item can influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
