World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all its leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a good indicator of an item upgrader kit's quality and the amount of damage it will be able to deal. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item's level.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.

This isn't the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrader mod by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade item an item to specific stats or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items as well as the properties created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items are available at the store, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. All items have a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
