Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance an item upgrader with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item upgrade will be revealed at the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure how much it can be improved upon a reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be expensive, and there is a substantial possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failed upgrade will ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also offer an additional bonus when they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in many ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as possible.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the most effective method to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and give significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values it can improve a statistic by. The value is displayed when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with another Glyph with the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you will require them to be put on your equipment. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Using Glyphs Glyph will boost all the nodes that are connected to it, and you should aim to place your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximize the impact. For instance, a Druid should aim to place their Glyphs close to their primary damage points, but you should also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different number of components to be reached, and the upgrade costs increase as the item is leveled up.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player it is replaced with a different item of the same kind. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can be more expensive even if you do not need it.

Every each time you upgrade an item it has a chance to fail--the failure rate increases the farther you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to return to its original condition which means that the player has to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item fails to upgrade items, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. In addition the item will be deducted any bonus it earned such as crit chance and attack damage, and all other effects that are associated with that effect (for example, increased heal over time or reload speed). However, the player may continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

If an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied in order from lowest to highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded gains a crit chance increase, the increase will be applied prior to any damage to attack increases. The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its value.
