Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will gain 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item upgrader mod is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at the very least upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may have a prefix or suffix changing the name of the item to which it is used (for examplefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment using less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will appear during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of the extent to which it will increase after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that double or even eliminate possibility of failure, and some upgrades that provide an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible up to 15 levels.

In the final game you'll find that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component which can be upgraded to level 15 and give significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most commonly used. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a specific range of values can enhance a stat by. The value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll require them to be put on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus that boosts a specific set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Based on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats, or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Utilizing a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, so you should aim to place your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for instance should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They might be able to place them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The system of upgrading items lets players increase the stats of certain items by placing upgraded components into them. This is often referred to as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each level of an item requires a different number of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade items tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each upgrade item Recipe that is completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to leveling up an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an individual player upgrade the equipment they have the original item upgrade will be replaced with a new item. The same armor will be upgraded to the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have a unique bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could make the item more expensive if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses. This can be useful however it should not be repeated often since it can waste resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player is repeatedly in or leaves the water. The item can be upgraded multiple times by increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is highly valuable in PvP. A properly rolled version could be worth up to 50x the value of its unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The upgrade of items allows players to increase the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon equipment will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Every time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The failure rate increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to revert to its initial state, requiring the player to spend more money on materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.

If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it has gained, such as the chance to crit, attack damage, or additional effects (such as increased heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the user can still continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon gains a crit chance increase, the increase will be applied before any attack damage increases. Slots is a new attribute that was added to item definitions. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is the same as the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item may have five upgrades, each costing 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero quality items are less expensive per upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. Whatever the case, players will have to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. In addition to the upgrade costs mentioned above, each upgrade requires a different amount of the upgrade ingredients.
