WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrades by 3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the item level upgrade being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased from NPCs of Item level upgrade upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item upgrader kit slot, and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less, even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade item level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
