One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum best vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
