The 10 Most Terrifying Things About Item Upgrading
Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.
Typically items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases such as Eth titans don't change much in their stats after being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components are items that can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons, armor and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or additional effect while the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, dropped by enemies, or obtained as a reward for missions or chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.
In order to upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the user must choose it and click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be, as well as the necessary component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.
There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be placed in any kind of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are gems that are only available in legendary and ascended equipment. They offer the same bonuses as jewels, but they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix to the end of item names. For instance the addition of the suffix Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces the glyphs with a different one, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component the item upgrade will be destroyed, with the exception for inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade item system in Path of Exile has some significant changes from previous versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before being "leveled out." The cost for upgrades increases with each level up, but the required materials aren't as high. This lets players focus their efforts on a few important items to maximize their impact instead of spreading cost of upgrades across several pieces.
When an item is completed and is leveled out, it will be eligible for a new set of upgrade components, as well as an increase in the probability that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy, and it will reset to zero on failure or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to gain affixes which will enhance its capabilities. The number of affixes that are available will depend on the item's class. For example, an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will only have two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on the type of item at its current level and what slot it is located in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.
If an item fails to attain its maximum level, the NPC offers the player the choice to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a new set or upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of material however it will have less chance of success.
To measure the height of a structure engineers utilize an instrument to compare the measurement to a known reference point such as a benchmark or the elevation of the ground. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the backsight rod and level, then turning the level and making the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that structures are built to a high level of accuracy and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of altering an item's upgrade components. It is an essential element of the game, and it can improve the strength, damage or other characteristics. This can be done via the item menu or pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded Best item upgrade. Rerolling can be expensive and should only be used in rare cases.
The game lets players recycle upgraded items, which can be used to earn reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or another item of the same type. Recyclable items have an indicator of level that indicates how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The rarity and the cost of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.
Prior to this, certain upgrade items were given priority affixes, which made them easier for players to roll. This meant that you'd receive the stats that mattered most to your build often than other. This included stats like the armor's total armour, thorns and diminished duration due to control or the weapon's bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This has changed since the latest patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for every stat. This can be either good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can have a unique bonus that increases the item's power by a fixed percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added to the standard affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the better the chance of receiving an exclusive bonus.
The game also includes a number of sets, which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on a unit. This is a good method of giving a character a lot more power without spending a lot of money.
Many players prefer to reroll their equipment and weapons, particularly in the beginning of the game. This is because rerolling could offer a quicker route to a more powerful character which allows them to achieve high tiers and progress the game more quickly.
