Upgrades to gear increase its base stats and sometimes enhances its extras. The value of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the number of random augmentations applied.
For instance, the premium racial shield Razortail is commonly upgraded for its lightning absorb function in PvP, or to add additional defenses on missile based builds in PvM. This makes it more exchangeable than the un-upgraded version.
Reroll Tokens
Reroll tokens allow you to buy a new item, such as armor, weapon, or ring. This swaps the current item for a different one similar one with an additional set of bonuses. A perfectly rolled 200/6500 armor set piece, for example is highly coveted by melee PvP communities and can be worth 20-50 times the value of an unupp'd counterpart.
