Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than in later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by the overlays.
