Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of an item will be available in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure how much it will be improved following a reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a high chance that the item could be obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade item can destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Leveling

The item upgrading system lets players increase the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components to be reached, and the upgrade costs increase as the item gets advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes.
