The process of upgrading an item, often called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales according to their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

A level upgrade item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the power of your armor and weapons. This can be achieved by a variety of methods, including by using upgrade components or by increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which could increase their stats.

Upgradeable items can be found throughout the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be made by players. Upgrade components are the most common method to upgrade equipment. These are items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others give general bonuses.

There are many types of upgrade components in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any equipment, and offer less than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools, and provide a variety of benefits, from increasing the speed of the item's collection to providing additional crafting materials.

Choose the item from your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected stats are after the upgrade, as well as any necessary components or materials. If you do not have enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.

The upper-right corner displays the number of upgrade components required to create an item. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level of upgrade and rarity, but can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be improved with a prefix, such as a rune, or an insignia. Other weapons can be improved by adding an suffix. Glyphs

Each glyph increases a stat's value by a certain range. This is shown on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is the maximum value that a glyph can increase a stat's value by but not the amount it actually increases it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you are in awe of it.

The majority of upgrade components that are installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. However, if you have a rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to a different piece equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you are looking to remove a glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item will be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards, so this should not be considered a loss.

Adding a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable, and the shards of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you take it down. You can also place an inscription to your equipment to make it more valuable. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at one time. This is helpful for players who are taking a lot of damage from enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes that are placed on weapons and equipment. It would be fairer to let people pay for it with cash or food items that allows them to make changes to their builds without having to invest too much time. However paying for rerolls is not something that the developers would like to implement at this point in the game's development. They're planning to include a potion that will allow players to change their race in the near future.

Leveling

There are several ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount that increases the value of an upgrade for any stat. The second is to increase the effect of an upgrade which increases the damage or heal of a given stat. In addition there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to an upgrade type. When this is done, the new item will keep its iLevel but it will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded Item Upgrader Kit type.

Upgrades can be costly, especially if you are upgrading gear from the standard track to the legendary. The cost of upgrading an item will depend on its base iLevel and the number of upgrade levels. Certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next level.

If you're lucky, your upgraded item may reach the maximum level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional effect. This will provide a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. Generally speaking the upgrade effect is increased by a number of +3.

The iLevel also changes depending on the item's upgrade path and its base level. For instance, an item that is upgraded from being a scarce or exclusive item to an extraordinary one will have the chance to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
