Upgrades to items allow players to upgrade their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost its stats base or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Usually, items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, while objects with strong bases, such as eth titans aren't affected in their stats following being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, found in loot, dropped by enemies or received as rewards from missions or chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the player must select it, and then click the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. This will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview that shows the expected upgrade stats and the necessary component or materials.

There are three kinds of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be placed in any type of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are gems that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They offer the same bonuses as jewels, however they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix to the end of the names of items. For example the addition of the suffix Glyph will transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces the glyphs by a different one, the old one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, with the exception of inscribed glyphs that can be swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant changes from the previous versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can only be upgraded a certain number of times before they're "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, however the materials required for upgrades do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a select few items and maximize the impact of these items, rather than spreading upgrade costs over multiple pieces.

This will enable the item to receive upgraded components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as Artisan’s Energy and it resets to 0 if the upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece is upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to gain affixes which will boost its attributes. The number of affixes available will depend on the item's class. For instance an uncommon or unique weapon with a base that is standard will have only two affixes, whereas a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade will require a certain number of Flightstones and crests to complete depending on the item's current level and the item upgrader kit (visit Atavi here >>) slot it's in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not attain its maximum level, the NPC grants players the option to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take between one and two hours, and costs the same amount of materials. However it has a lower chance of success.

Engineers may use a level in order to measure the height of the building against a known point, like the benchmark. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and level, then turning the level and making the foresight rod reading. This method guarantees that buildings are constructed to a high level of accuracy and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can dramatically enhance an item's strength and damage as well as other attributes. This can be done through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be expensive and should be done sparingly.

Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items come with an indicator of the level which shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item will determine the level of filling.

In the past, some upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you'd get the stats most important to your build more frequently than others. These included things such as the armor's total armor, thorns, and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This was changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for all stats. This can be good or bad, depending on what you want and need from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can have a unique bonus that increases the item level upgrade's power by a fixed percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added into the usual affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the better your chances of receiving the bonus of a different kind.

The game also has a number set that grants an extra bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are installed on a unit. This is a good way to give an individual character more power without spending a ton of money.

Many players have the habit of rerolling their weapons and gear particularly in the initial stages. Rerolling is a way to gain a stronger character faster, allowing players to advance in the game and attain higher tiers.

Sets

Sets are collections that can be organized differently. They could be of various sizes, have no elements, or only contain one element. They are useful for organizing data or separating information. They can also be used to study patterns. Sets can be classified in many ways, such as by size and shape.

There are a range of set items to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Some items are worth upgrading, while others aren't. Sets of armor that offer the highest defense value or set bonuses are generally worth upgrading. However, most upgrades to weapons don't improve the item's stats much compared to their purple counterparts. This makes them less attractive to upgrade if you own lots of armor or weapons already.

Certain set items are upgraded for their own special functions, which can be particularly useful in some builds. Guillaume's Face face and Aldur's Advance boots are a good example of this. Both were upgraded from Exceptional Winged Helm and Exceptional Mirrored Boots respectively, increasing their defense by 217 to 321 (Strength requirement and Level requirement was increased as well).

Upgrades can also be made to bring certain items to the level of the tiers. The Immortal King Set, for instance, comes with a wide range of levels, from 29 to 75. Upgrading lower-level set items can boost their defense and increase their competitiveness in terms of damage.

Clicking the Upgrade button will show the item level upgrade's attributes and the required items to upgrade it. The item's attributes will be displayed together with any required items. For instance the No-mouth face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Alternatively, players can go to the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to see the upgrade requirements of specific items.

In general, weapons and armor have a higher trade value when fully updated. Particularly, for weapons that feature damage glyphs that are spell-like or weapon-related and are upgraded to gold is recommended because it will give a substantial increase in their performance. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this, since its defense value will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
